Question

How Long Does a Divorce Take?

!
Answer

It will depend on whether you divorce is contested or uncontested. Generally, Supreme Courts in different counties have different processing times for uncontested divorces (anywhere between 4 to 12 months). Our firm is familiar with different processing times in the different boroughs of the City as well as Nassau and Suffolk Counties. We strive to obtain the fastest uncontested divorces for our clients.

If you divorce is contested, the time will depend on the complexity of the issues, including child custody, child support, equitable distribution and the like as well as time spend preparing the case and court schedule. Typical contested divorce takes anywhere between 12 to 24 months.
